I love strawberries but I hate how fast they lose their great taste and go bad in the fridge. When I was growing up my grandmother taught me a lot about how to be more frugal and keep my fruits and veggies fresh for longer. So here's a simple tip, courtesy of my grandmother who is at home with God now, on how to keep your strawberries fresh for longer!

What you need:

  • Strawberries
  • 1/2 Cup White or Cider Vinegar
  • 4 Cups Water

Soak all of the strawberries, totally submersing them in the vinegar/water mixture for a few minutes. I usually leave them soaking for about 5 minutes.  Then drain the strawberries in a colander until they are completely dry, blotting with paper towels if necessary. Put in uncovered bowl and refrigerate.

This also works for all kinds of berries including: blueberries, raspberries, etc. The vinegar does NOT affect the taste and keeps the mold spores off and the berries fresher much longer! Strawberries usually last an extra week using this tip.
